(in response to Thin Paper Security)
I fly quite frequently. I joke nowadays that I don't live in Nebraska, I just pay property taxes and store my gear there. I get to experience airport security rather frequently, and yes, I have had the 4-S Super Secret Special Search and the "random" extra search. Almost all of the so-called security is a complete joke. Put undercover armed marshals on flights, make it common knowledge that they're always present, put trained staff in many stages of the airport process looking for people behaving "hinky", and you've created much better security than what we have right now with our Security Theatre.
Checking IDs and tickets is a waste. Want in the "secure" area? Print a boarding pass. That's only one of the flaws...
An excellent read is the interview of TSA-head Kip Hawley by Bruce Schneier, security expert.
